Move Over or Slow Down. It’s the law.

Move over laws require motorists to move over or slow down when approaching utility, and other such authorized vehicles, on the side of the road.

These laws are designed to protect motorists, including motorists stranded by the side of the road, persons being transported in emergency vehicles and personnel at high risk while performing their duties on America’s roadways.

In accordance with the law, motorists must move over one lane or slow down when approaching authorized vehicles such as emergency, towing, construction, solid waste, recycling and utility, with flashing lights activated. Those who fail to obey the law are endangering the lives of personnel who provide critical and life-saving services. Failure to obey the law can result in fines of over $100.

Please give our employees the room they need to work safely; their jobs are dangerous enough already.
